Diagnosis of children:
If you suspect your child may have autism
spectrum disorder, a multidisciplinary assessment is recommended and should
include behavioural observation, cognitive
assessment, speech and language assessment and ideally paediatric medical and
neurological review.
In Tasmania, Agencies which offer a multidisciplinary assessment include:
South: St. John's Rehabilitation Hospital, 03 62381801
North: Child Assessment Centre, 03 63327910
North West: Child Assessment Centre, 03 64346450
Phone referral can be made to each of these agencies (with parental permission)
by any involved person (eg. child health nurse; general practitioner, teacher;
carer or
parent). A referral and consent form can then be posted to the parent for
application.
